How Small Forestry works
Start free: check your land
Enter your address and we resolve your parcel from county records: acreage, assessed value, soils from the USDA survey. Answer a short survey and you get an eligibility read and an estimated annual saving under Present Use Value or WCLP, plus matched cost-share practices and a hunting-lease income estimate. No account needed.
Save it, then generate the paperwork
A free account saves your property and unlocks the documents section. The forest management plan is built through a guided interview: we map your woodland areas from satellite imagery, show you what we found, and ask only what the imagery could not tell us. You can correct anything we derived, measure stands yourself with our tape-measure instructions, stop and resume on any device, and see a free watermarked preview of your actual plan before paying anything.
The membership ($49/year)
One membership covers every property you own: the advisor that knows your land, the EQIP grant application (form CPA-1200) prefilled from your property data, and signature-ready NC hunting-lease agreements.
The Tax-savings package ($249 one time, per property)
The enrollment package for one parcel: the signable forest management plan, the prefilled AV-5 or AV-56 application, and filing guidance for your county. It never expires and does not renew. Membership required.
The purchase stays on the property forever, and every document you have generated stays downloadable forever. Regenerating or updating a document (a fresh AV-5, an amended plan) requires an active membership.
Finish and file
The plan's opening pages tell you exactly what remains to be completed, who may finish and sign it, and where to file. You can complete and sign it yourself where your county accepts owner-prepared plans, or send it to a forester with one link, no account needed: they download the draft, decide what field checks or revisions it needs, sign, and upload the signed copy through the same link. The AV-5 and the plan then go to your county tax office during the January listing period.

Savings and income figures are estimates, not determinations: the county assessor, NRCS, and the NCWRC make the binding calls for their programs. Nothing here is legal or tax advice.
